Living Change @ The State Library Gallery

A surreal and almost indescribable afternoon at the State Library of Queensland yesterday with the official opening of "Living Change" exhibition as it begins a year long tour of Queensland regional centres. To have a quilt included in this amazing collection of artists was overwhelming. To have my father present ... there will never be the right words. Congratulations to all  the artists - sculptors, painters, weavers, potters and and textile genres - such talent and so humbled to share this space with them. It was a day of exquisite company, unexpected friends, an emotional roller-coaster and a day that I hope will never fade from memory. Family is everything. Many thanks to Janet de Boer and TAFTA, Flying Arts Alliance and the generosity of sponsors of this annual event.

Gallery 159 and State of the Art Quilt 11

Wow - it is hard to believe that in two short weeks Gallery 159 will host the State of the Art Quilt 11 (SotAQ11).  The exhibition starts on 12 November. This year a number of the artists whose works were juried into SotAQ11 will be talking about their works, what inspired them and all things art quilt. Ankie King's One Hundred Squares was created through a self-challenge to work in black, red and gold and create one hundred squares. Each square is different and contains many surprises on closer inspection.  Everyone is welcome to attend.  Where: Gallery 159 @ 159 Payne Road, Ashgrove When: Saturday 12 November 2011. Gifting away a subscription to TEXTILE magazine

I just adore TEXTILE magazine which is the publication of The Australian Forum for Textile Arts, Ltd (TAFTA) and is edited by Janet De Boer O.A.M.  Check out the website ... and read on.
TAFTA subscribers get a "subscriber-only" newsletter  with the magazine that is full of interesting stuff (should probably call it a supplement) about upcoming exhibitions, goings-on, news and events and details of workshops and forums ... and so it goes. TAFTA members are encouraged to "spread the word and the love" so I'm going to gift away a one-year subscription to TEXTILE magazine, including postage - to  anywhere in the world.
